A prestigious night
Some wonderful and romantic nights spent in a prestigious Parisian chateau made us long for restful nights. While the quality of service of the location obviously contributes to quiet nights far from our usual worries, we revel in the comfortable bedding. A soft welcome seems to embrace our bodies, tired from days wandering round the capital. Unbelievably smooth pillows, a warm duvet, silky sheets: after roving the streets of the city of love, all we want to do is curl up in this cocoon of tenderness.
After a memorable week in this majestic hotel, we couldn’t bear to leave it without understanding why these nights were so relaxing. I carefully pulled back the corner of the sheet, and found, exquisitely embroidered on the handle, the name of the great Maison Treca. I was aware of it, because I go past their shop in Lyon every morning on my way to work. Sometimes, I find myself slowing down in front of their shop window to admire their latest collections. The shop is so bold with colour that I often linger there a few minutes looking at the daring fabrics when I spot a new one. Delighted with our discovery, we left rested and calm from this splendid trip, our heads filled with memories. How good it is to go home after a few days on the loose, finding those special places that make your day.
In the week following our lovely break, after looking at their website I decide to book a meeting so I can finally dare to enter that lovely boutique in the 6th arrondissement of Lyon. My partner and I choose a date, dying to discover all those beds, each one more beautiful than the next. Two days later, we are strolling down Rue de la Tête d’Or, ideally situated between the park of the same name and the Part-Dieu railway station, in the sunshine. The spring air brings with it the sweet fragrance of renewal. Surrounded by charming little shops, the Treca one stands out with its severe yet elegant frontage.
Enchantment
With hungry eyes I indulge my curiosity, discovering the bedlinen collections beautifully displayed here and there. A smiling assistant comes to meet us as we enter. Over a coffee, he asks us about our sleeping habits, our needs and wishes as well as our budget. In the evening, I enjoy reading a book in silence, while my partner falls asleep almost immediately. The adviser is interested in our sleep profile, which is a term I hadn’t heard before.
Armed with this information, he chooses two models that might suit us. He briefly outlines the history of Treca, which confirms our choice of brand and chimes with our values. The matter of hand-made, in France, enabling high quality products to be made is a must. Much more than a simple sales assistant, we benefit from the knowledge of this sleep expert.
We make our way towards the pillow display, which also merits a closer look based on our profiles. Whether firm or soft, feather or synthetic, there’s something for every taste. The surroundings and suffused lighting create an ideal environment. We try the mattresses to get a feel for their comfort for a few minutes. We regret having to tear ourselves away from the mattress which already seems to envelop us.
The adviser explains that if the mattress is comfortable, it’s because of its pocket spring technology. My husband, who is always curious, asks him about this innovation. Several layers of small springs are laid on top of each other to make us as comfortable as possible, which I find amazing. Personally, it’s mostly the soft touch of the mattress that impresses me. The assistant tells us that the combination of natural materials like cashmere, linen and silk are the reason for this, which even make it possible to regulate body temperature.
Contemplation
My body is gently sinking into the mattress, which seems to blend with my movements, the stitching is generous and the finishings superb.
The adviser also tells us that there are various types of headboard available for certain models, which is great news. The two mattresses singled out are incredibly comfortable and I already feel that I am leaning towards the Treca Paris Istanbul mattress. He tells us about the Pierre Frey furnishings fabric company, which partners the shop: their creations can cover our bed base and headboard, based on our choice.
I am finally able to put a name to the talented designer who creates these headboards, which I have long admired in the window. I’m certainly not going to leave this shop without getting my hands on these sumptuous fabrics – they are definitely going home with me! Interior design is very important to me. I love bright colours that inject vivacity and energy into the room. The adviser shows me the range of these fabrics that delight the artist in me. But just one of them makes my heart miss a beat, and after batting my eyelids at my partner to convince him, we head to the office to finally firm up our dream deal.
The final stage is the order. And as life is made of little pleasures, I smile at the idea that even the office chairs are exquisitely comfortable. Sitting at our ease, we confirm the purchase, guided by the thought that it makes sense for us to invest in a quality product for the long term, but also thinking how delightful it is to treat ourselves to this eye-catching piece for our bedroom.
Our order slip comes in a magnificent black pouch, in the shop’s livery. Prestige emanates from each moment spent in this shop. After a friendly handshake with the charming adviser, we make our way to the exit, delighted with our purchase!
A few weeks later the bed sewn by hand stands proudly in our beautiful romantic bedroom. Our nights are exquisite – worthy of the grandest hotels. The headboard enchants me every morning, brightening up my day. I’ve chosen satin sheets and quality pillows to complement this exceptional bed. Lie-ins have a particular feel in this amazing cocoon. So, to thank the dedicated adviser for his sound advice, I go to the shop and write a rave review for him.
Treca chooses the companies they work with based on shared values. The fabric suppliers are chosen by Treca teams who select the best bedding fabrics. Fabric samples are sent to the Reichshoffen workshops in Alsace so the master-craftsmen can try them out.
The Treca shops offer their customers a wide range of fabric samples, using a Déco sample pack that proposes the best products of their partner suppliers. Customers can choose from 70 fabrics selected from the pack, but they can also suggest their own fabric sample, which will need to be agreed by the master-craftsmen in our Alsace workshops.
